Do You Want to Start an Internet Business? Here Is Some Advice

In these somewhat harsh economic times, there are many people who are starting or have started a home-based business. One of the "easiest" ways to do this is through the Internet. With popular social media platforms Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter there are thousands, if not millions of opportunities to make money. There are also thousands of methods to pursue, systems to embrace and gurus to follow.
The reality is with the right attitude, mind-set and most of all, perseverance anyone can succeed. Ask yourself the following questions:
  • Are you brand new to business, especially Internet business?
  • Are you a casual Internet user trying to make money in this universe of buyers and sellers?
  • Do you now have a Facebook, LinkedIn or other social media account, when you never had one before?
  • Do you want to start a business, but are not sure how?
If the answer to these questions is yes, here are some bits of advice I would like to share with you to get started.
  • List your goals and when they will be achieved.
Would you like to make your business a full-time venture, or is it just for additional income that will be generated by it? What is the reason for wanting to start your own enterprise? The answer should be to embark on a journey that will help you to realize your dreams. Goal setting is number one.You cannot succeed without doing this first.
  • Find something that you believe in and are passionate about. Do not be afraid to take action. Make a decision, carry it through and stick with it.
In President Franklin D. Roosevelt's first inaugural speech he was addressing the American people in the midst of the Great Depression. FDR had campaigned very hard against the incumbent, President Herbert Hoover. There were massive new programs that he wanted to turn America back to prosperity. He took drastic action. In order to calm the nerves of the country as he led the nation into uncharted waters he said, "Only Thing We Have to Fear Is Fear Itself".
  • Get organized and professional
One of the best tools for this business is a calendar. Use it as a reference, time manager and notebook. It also helps if you have a way to keep track of legal, tax requirements, forms and licenses. In addition, you will need to monitor expenses and revenue. It is always best not to mix the money set aside for your business with your personal household funds. Remember, this is a business and should be treated like one. The more you increase your professionalism, the more credibility you will have. Obtain the tools you need to run the operation the best way possible.
  • Obtain a mentor or coach to help you succeed
In ancient Greece, classical education came from mentors. Mentors are teachers or guides who have the knowledge and expertise in any number of areas. They pass this knowledge on to students who then become mentors themselves. The great philosopher Aristotle was the mentor of Alexander the Great. Plato was Aristotle's mentor. Socrates was the teacher of Plato. The pattern is obvious. It is always wise to learn from others in the Internet community. There are many folks that successfully developed and prospered with various Internet business models. Research your particular niche and get involved with the different groups that exist on Google, Facebook or LinkedIn. There will be people willing to help, offer advice and instruct someone new.
